Can Dogs Eat Doritos?

Many of us love to share our snacks with our furry friends.  However, not all snacks are healthy for our pets. The short answer to the question is yes, they can, but that does not make it a good idea.

Your dog may truly love Doritos, but it’s still not recommended to allow your pet to eat them.

Why Not?

Doritos are high in fat.  They can lead to heart disease and diabetes.  You might notice that your dog’s abdomen becomes swollen or upset shortly after eating Doritos.

Doritos contain processed corn and are packed with artificial chemicals.  These corns and chemicals can be harmful to your dog’s digestive system and are considered totally unhealthy for him.

Find a Different Treat!

Why not serve your dog a tasty and healthy treat while you enjoy your Doritos?  He may not have any Doritos, but he will be satisfied.

If your dog likes to sit next to you, and beg you to share Doritos, it’s time to find an alternative. Think of the healthy foods that dogs love, i.e. blackberries, coconuts, banana, etc.

How Do I Know If He is Fond of Doritos?

Dogs usually have their own eye and body language.  Do you ever notice your dog begging with a look?  Does he sit next to you and stare at your chips?  How can you say no to that face?

There is another way to know that your dog wants your snacks.  You may notice him approaching you, especially while you’re cooking, and waiting patiently for you to give him some.

What About Other Chips?

Just like Doritos, other types of chips contain salt, fats, and artificial chemicals which are harmful even for humans. If such snacks are unhealthy for us, why would we want our pets to eat them?

In short, chips are not healthy for our dogs, especially chips that contain garlic powders because they are toxic to dogs and puppies.

Signs That Your Dog is Poisoned

If your dog is poisoned, you will see the signs. These signs include seizures, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal issues.

These signs can easily be noticed soon after eating Doritos, or any other chip. In this case, you should take your dog as soon as possible to the vet.

Always be on the lookout for chips with garlic powder.  Garlic powder will harm your dog.  If your four legged pal ingests such a snack, seek professional help immediately.

In a nutshell, Doritos are bad for your dog’s health.  Garlic and onion flavored chips are especially dangerous.  Veterinarians always recommend snacks that will keep your canine healthy and happy.
